Absorb the power of “Lightning Strikes” with rising alt-pop artist, Kitty Rae.

Rising dark electropop artist Kitty Rae (she/they) has their electric debut album arriving on September 22 - but they’re releasing the sizzling title track a week earlier on September 15 after it was announced as a semi-finalist for the national Listen Up Songwriting Prize.

Written by Kitty Rae themselves, ‘Lightning Strikes’ takes you on a journey of growing up as a child trained to fit the mould and conform to other people’s expectations of who you are. It’s the story of a ‘sad soul’ growing more self-aware in a world that doesn’t always have your best interests at heart; and the resulting friction, sadness and anger that swells like an inner-storm when you are living life focused on everybody’s wants and needs except your own.

With a moody, alternative sonic experience and mesmerising vocals, ‘Lightning Strikes’ has been announced as a semi-finalist of the Listen Up Songwriting Prize 2023, a national songwriting competition with previous winners including Velvet Bloom, Timothy Wolf and Seb Mont. The Semi-Finals performance takes place a week after the release of Kitty’s nominated track, on September 22.

"Lightning Strikes" is the title track from Kitty Rae's highly anticipated debut album, ‘Lightning Strikes’, released on September 22. The album marks a significant milestone in the Kitty’s career, further solidifying their position as an emerging force in the music industry.

The album further explores themes of breaking free from societal expectations to embrace your own power, and includes Kitty Rae’s angsty, empowering anthem ‘Sick of Being Sad’ that smashed 25K streams and featured on Spotify’s ‘Fresh Finds AU + NZ’ Playlist and premiered on JOY The Sound of Now.

Kitty Rae heads on tour with their band in October, playing The Royal Bondi in Sydney on October 5, North Wollongong Hotel with Yours and Owls on October 8, the Tomcat in Brisbane on October 13, and returning for a hometown show at the Bergy Bandroom in Melbourne on October 27.

Kitty Rae's single 'Lightning Strikes' will be available on all major streaming platforms on September 15, with the whole album released on September 22. For updates and further information, visit Kitty Rae's official website and follow them on social media.
